| | Visit
the center's spectacular museum. See 19 full-size mounted skeletons, including
8 dinosaurs, such as: Allosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex. |
Finding
and digging up fossils is the first step of the paleontological process. The Dinosaur
Dig holds over 60 identified dig sites in a 500-acre area. Most of the fossil-bearing
sediments are part of the Morrison Formation from the Late Jurassicover
140 million years old! These hold many of the most famous dinosaurs: Allosaurus,
Apatosaurus (also known as Brontosaurus), Camarasaurus, Diplodocus, and Stegosaurus.
Fossils are also found in the even older Sundance Formation, which was deposited
when a vast sea covered the North American interior. Here one can find fossil
shells, squid "pencaps", and occasionally bones from marine reptiles. | | Dig
for a Day with scientists and document dinosaur fossils. Participants will
meet in the morning for a brief orientation, then climb aboard a tour bus for
the short trip to the dig site. The day's activities will include fossil stabilization
and excavation, quarry mapping, and documentation. A sack lunch will be provided,
as will all the materials needed. There is a van which can take you back to town
should the children get tired or too hot. The experienced staff will be on-hand
to answer questions and provide assistance. |
Two nights at a family-oriented hotel near the dino digs.
Guests enjoy
the mineral water which is piped directly from its source to an outdoor spa on
the premises. The property also has a heated, freshwater pool. In addition, there
are two commercial water parks within easy walking distance. | | |
